Choose My Lawyer was founded by John Quentin to make it easier for consumers to find, compare and choose solicitors across the whole regulated market.
John spent 16 years in practice as a solicitor, initially working for a law firm and later joining the Solicitors Regulation Authority, where he became Head of Legal and Enforcement. Across those roles, he saw first-hand how difficult it can be for consumers to find comparable information about solicitors and make an informed choice. He also experienced the difficulty law firms often have in connecting with consumers looking for their services.
The problem was also personal. Early in his career, John chose a conveyancer for his first house purchase on recommendation and had a poor experience. Years later at the SRA, friends would ask him for law firm recommendations, but John often couldn't give them a meaningful answer. More importantly, he couldn't point them towards an independent source that would allow them to compare the market and decide for themselves.
Those experiences left him with a fundamental question: why should choosing a solicitor be this difficult?
Choose My Lawyer is his answer: organising information from across the regulated market so consumers can make an informed choice without being limited to a shortlist or panel.

Is Choose My Lawyer free to use?+
Yes. Choose My Lawyer is free for consumers and there is no obligation to proceed with a firm.
Participating firms may pay fees to Choose My Lawyer where users request callbacks or proceed through the platform. Firms cannot pay for a higher ranking position and fees do not affect comparison results.
How accurate are the prices shown?+
Choose My Lawyer uses the best information available at the time of your search.
Some prices are verified directly by firms and others are estimated using structured pricing methodologies where directly comparable information is unavailable.
Prices include standard legal fees, VAT where applicable, HM Land Registry fees and a standard search pack.
Legitimate price changes can sometimes occur if your transaction changes or additional information becomes available.
Can firms pay for a higher position?+
No.
Firms cannot pay for a higher ranking position on Choose My Lawyer.
Comparison results are generated using structured information and consistent comparison rules rather than hidden payments.
What happens when I request a callback?+
Requesting a callback does not mean you are choosing the firm to act for you. It's just a no-obligation conversation to help you decide.
We send the firm your details and ask them to contact you at the time you selected, so you can ask questions and decide whether they are right for you.
What happens after I select a firm?+
After you choose Select or Request a callback, we ask only for the information needed so firms can contact you.
We will show you a summary of the information being shared and ask for your consent before anything is sent.
Firms will first complete conflict checks before confirming whether they can act and should then explain the next steps to you.
We will send you a copy of the information shared and may follow up afterwards to check what happened and improve the quality of information shown to future users.
