Choose My Lawyer
Transparency CentreFrequently asked questions
Is Choose My Lawyer free to use?+

Yes. Choose My Lawyer is free for consumers and there is no obligation to proceed with a firm.

Participating firms may pay fees to Choose My Lawyer where users request callbacks or proceed through the platform. Firms cannot pay for a higher ranking position and fees do not affect comparison results.

How accurate are the prices shown?+

Choose My Lawyer uses the best information available at the time of your search.

Some prices are verified directly by firms and others are estimated using structured pricing methodologies where directly comparable information is unavailable.

Prices include standard legal fees, VAT where applicable, HM Land Registry fees and a standard search pack.

Legitimate price changes can sometimes occur if your transaction changes or additional information becomes available.

Why might prices change later?+

Some costs can only become known once a firm has reviewed your transaction in more detail.

Examples may include additional searches, leasehold costs or other transaction-specific expenses.

Where prices change, we believe firms should explain clearly what has changed and why.

Can firms pay for a higher position?+

No.

Firms cannot pay for a higher ranking position on Choose My Lawyer.

Comparison results are generated using structured information and consistent comparison rules rather than hidden payments.

Are all firms regulated?+

Yes. Choose My Lawyer uses law firms regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) within the relevant market scope.

You can read more about our whole of market approach in the Whole of market comparison article.

What happens after I select a firm?+

After you choose Select or Request a callback, we ask only for the information needed so firms can contact you.

We will show you a summary of the information being shared and ask for your consent before anything is sent.

Firms will first complete conflict checks before confirming whether they can act and should then explain the next steps to you.

We will send you a copy of the information shared and may follow up afterwards to check what happened and improve the quality of information shown to future users.

What if a firm does not contact me?+

If contact is unsuccessful, please let us know. We may follow up with the firm and help you continue exploring your options.
